To promote international students' better learning and use of Chinese and understand their living and learning status, on the morning of November 3rd, 2024, the School of Civil Engineering held the 2024 Speech Contest for International Students in Room 705, the First Teaching Building of the Xiaozhai Campus. A total of 13 international students participated in this competition, and five teachers, including Ye Yanxia, Kong Dequan, Liu Yan, Liao Fangfang, and Fu Bo, who were international student tutors, served as judges.
According to the competition rules, each contestant chose one of the five topics: The Value of Friendship, Festivals in Chinese Culture, My Hometown, A Trip I Took in China, and My Understanding of My Major and gave a speech of no more than five minutes. The contestants shared their stories and insights during their study in China, combined with their personal experiences, expressing their recognition and love for Chinese culture. The judge teachers scored each contestant mainly based on their language expression, emotional expression, venue effect, speech time, speech materials, and characteristics and innovation. After the competition, KADJE GUEPING JONATHAN won first place, SARDAR OBAID FAROOQ KHAN won second place, and DAVID SHINGU ALISON won third place.

This speech contest provided a stage for international students to exchange ideas and showcase themselves and inspired their enthusiasm for learning Chinese. During the competition, the contestants used vivid language and full emotions to talk about their experiences and feelings in their lives and studies in China, demonstrating their positive and enterprising spirit of loving life. The successful holding of this event enriched the campus life of international students and added a bright color to the cultivation of international students in the School of Civil Engineering.
