At the invitation of our college, Professor GREGORY ANTHONY MACRAE from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, delivered an academic lecture titled New Zealand Seismic Design of Buildings and Some Research Studies on the morning of October 10, 2022. The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor Liao Fangfang from the School of Civil Engineering, and a number of teachers and postgraduate students from the School of Civil Engineering attended the event.
This lecture covered the structural design in New Zealand's seismic zones, some seismic design concepts developed in New Zealand, and some changes in design methods resulting from the New Zealand earthquakes between 2010 and 2016. Subsequently, it provided an overview of several recent and ongoing research studies, and introduced the research projects that Professor GREGORY ANTHONY MACRAE has participated in. These topics include those related to seismically defective structures, issues with current standards/methods, elastic structures, and post-earthquake decision-making.
During the lecture, teachers and students showed great interest in the content and engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges with Professor GREGORY ANTHONY MACRAE.
